How to Choose the Right Type of Surf Wax

Choosing the right surf wax might seem simple, but using the wrong type can make your board slippery and hard to control. The key is matching the wax to water temperature and conditions so you get maximum grip.

  • Cold to cool water (below 9°C - 20°C): Use 2x extra soft wax to provide maximum grip in chilly conditions.
  • Cool to mid warm water (14–23°C): A 3x soft wax works best for reliable traction.
  • Mid cool to warm water (18–26°C): A 4x firm wax works warmer waters.
  • Warm to mild tropical water (21–29°C): A 5x hard wax ideal for those Indo sessions!
  • Tropic or basecoat (26°C and ABOVE): A 6x extra hard wax ideal for those hot Indo sessions!
