Mr Zog & Nate Skinner shaking hands in the 1970'sIn the early 1970s, Zog was shaping surfboards and running a small surf shop in Goleta, California. By chance, a chemist named Nate Skinner worked in the building next door. The two struck up a conversation and quickly realised that Nate’s scientific expertise, combined with Zog’s surfing experience, made them an ideal team to create a high-performance surf wax.

Over the following year, Nate developed and refined a series of wax formulas, which Zog rigorously tested in real surf conditions. After many trials, they landed on a blend that met all their expectations.

The brand now offers a range of accessories, surf wax, branded air fresheners, car accessories, cozy, stylish sweaters, sweater hoodies and more. Wrap yourself in warmth after a surf session with the iconic Sex Wax sweaters hoodie—perfect for showing your love for this legendary surf wax brand both in and out of the water.

Sex Wax Types

Mr. Zog’s Sex Quick Humps Surf Surf Wax comes in a few different formulas, each designed for specific water temperatures to give the surfers the best grip when surfing:

Mr Zogs Sex Wax - Cold Water

Cold to Cool Water (9°C - 20°C / 48°F - 68°F)

  • Type: Cold Surf Wax (Purple Label)
  • Use when: You're surfing in chilly waters — perfect for winter sessions or colder climates.
  • Texture: Softer surf wax that stays grippy even in low temps.

Mr Zogs Sex Wax - Cool water

Cool to Warm Water (14°C - 23°C / 58°F - 74°F)

  • Type: Cool Surf Wax (Green Label)
  • Use when: You're in moderate temps — think spring/autumn transitions or slightly warmer regions.
  • Texture: Balanced softness and stickiness.

Mr Zogs Sex Wax - Warm water

Warm Water (19°C - 28°C / 66°F - 82°F)

  • Type: Warm Surf Wax (Red Label)
  • Use when: You're surfing tropical or summer waters.
  • Texture: Firmer than cold wax — won't melt too fast in the sun.

Mr Zogs Sex Wax - Tropical

Tropical Water (24°C+ / 75°F+)

  • Type: Tropical Surf Wax (Blue Label)
  • Use when: In very warm waters — ideal for Indonesia, Hawaii, or midsummer heat.
  • Texture: Hardest wax – resists melting, still gives excellent traction.

It's very important to know the water temperatures you will be surfing in before purchasing your surf wax. For the best grip, we highly recommend a base coat for optimal bump formation and grip. In UK waters, we suggest the blue box as the base coat and for your top coat, the green guy!

  • Basecoat: A hard surfboard wax layer (usually Tropical wax) applied first to give structure. It helps the topcoat stick and last longer.
  • Topcoat: A softer surfboard wax layer (based on your water temp) applied over the basecoat for maximum grip.

Tip: Always match your Sexwax topcoat surf wax to the water temperature you'll be surfing in!
